Hikoh

from Deepsky Lore by Davis West

/

about

"Hikoh" when written「飛行」means “flight” but written「弾こう」means “let’s play (music)”. I started writing it as a harmonic exercise on an ostinato but it ended up having a lot more to say, exploring the intersection between music and flying.

lyrics

Brush them off, all the cobwebs from the cold months
Spread your wings, cause I just learned how to use mine

Pick it up you’re losing speed, always something in between
The clouds are rolling under me, and I can’t wait for you

Floating aimlessly but never touching ground
Control to major fall, the minor lift
Keep it straightened up and fly left, fly right
Wherever you go, whenever you need

Pick it up you’re losing speed
Always something in between (雲の上)
The clouds are rolling under me, and I can’t wait for you
To fly

Feel the rush, that’s how you know you have found it
Fall with energy, but don't lose control

As the dew breaks fast from dusk, feathered birdsongs preach the choir Melodies of dreams come true, bolts of blue
Shine on you, flying through
